Tap tempo
Tap tempo is a metronome feature that lets you set the beats per minute by tapping a button or key in time, instead of typing a number. The device measures the interval between your taps and converts it to a tempo. It is the fastest way to match a metronome to a song you are already hearing or feeling.
Tap tempo turns your own sense of pulse into a precise tempo setting. Rather than guessing a number in beats per minute, you tap a button, key or screen several times in rhythm, and the metronome measures the average time between taps to calculate the corresponding BPM. This is invaluable when you want to match the speed of a recording, a bandmate or a groove in your head without knowing its exact tempo in advance. Most implementations average several taps to smooth out small timing inconsistencies, so tapping four or more times gives a steadier reading than tapping just twice. Once the tempo is captured you can fine-tune it up or down by single beats. Tap tempo is especially useful on stage, where counting in a song by feel is faster than dialing a number. FretMind's metronome includes tap tempo alongside microphone onset detection and a progressive tempo trainer, so you can set, check and gradually push your practice speed.
